Police officers on foot patrol along Thika Road at the KCA University underpass on Tuesday, November 15 arrested three notorious muggers on board a motorcycle.

The area of arrest was marked by the National Police Service (NPS) as a hotspot for muggings that have been on a spike across the city.

The male trio, all between the ages of 20 and 25 years old were riding the motorcycle around the hotspot when they were accosted by the officers attached to Muthaiga Police station.

"That today 15/11/2022. OCS Muthaiga and team while on foot patrol along Thika road, KCA underpass arrested three male notorious muggers, namely Vincent Ndiritu, Kelvin Maina and Daniel Mwangi all aged between 20 - 25 years.

They were on board of a motorcycle registration number KMFG 511," a police report seen by Viral Tea read in part.

Upon a quick search, the three men were found with two sharp knives and sharp spoons as well as a sharp piece of metal about 15 centimetres long.

The motorbike was also found to lack insurance cover and Vincent, its rider, did not have a driving license. All three lacked protective gear and were placed in custody pending arraignment in court.

"They were placed in cells awaiting identification for various criminal offences and interrogation. They will be charged accordingly at Makadara law court on 16/11/2022," added the report.

On the same day, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, November 15 arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Keagan Githua.

The 24-year-old who was working at the Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited (Kenya Re) after he recently graduated from Strathmore University where he studied Information Technology (IT) was stabbed to death on Sunday, October 30, by robbers on a motorcycle in Ridgeways, Kiambu county. 

The rampant surge in insecurity in Nairobi the following day forced President William Ruto to deploy officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU).

"In response to the security concern, the cabinet sanctioned upscaling of security surveillance to deter crime and sanctioned swift and decisive action to deal with all those perpetrating crimes.  It was noted that the Nairobi County Security command had been reorganized and further augmented with the deployment of additional specialized police units drawn from the General Service Unit and the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU)," a dispatch from the Cabinet meeting chaired by President Ruto read in part.
