Popular Nairobi Half Life actor Maina Wilfred Olwenya is dead.

Olwenya, who starred in the 2012 hit Kenyan movie as Oti collapsed and died on Monday, July 4.

He was pronounced dead after he was taken to a Nairobi Hospital. The family is expected to communicate further on his passing as the cause of his death is yet to be known.

"Kenyan Actor Olwenya Maina, popular for his role 'Oti' in Nairobi Half Life film is dead. He collapsed and was pronounced dead at the hospital," announced KTN News anchor Brian George that evening.

The news of his demise has since gripped the whole country, with many of his fans and Kenya's media personalities mourning his demise.

Olwenya was popularly known for his works and roles in Taliya (2021) and Poacher (2018) which followed his most famous stint as one of the main characters in Nairobi Half Life.

He also did various adverts as a voice-over artist and some of the radio stations he did voice-overs for included Radio Africa group and Radio Jambo, which is under the radio company.

"We'll miss you here at Radio Africa... among the very best voices in East Africa.... great actor, superb talent!!!!

"Recalling your outstanding role in the movie Nairobi Half-life...what a game-changer you were, big boss! Rest In Peace," mourned Classic FM radio host, Maina Kageni.

"Olwenya Maina has passed on! He was super talented. His role as 'Oti' in Nairobi Half Life was well executed.

"I loved all the roles he played. It's just heartbreaking. May his Soul Rest in eternal Peace. We have lost real talent," Bravin Yuri tweeted.

Other movies he acted in included Stories of our lives and Pendo.
