First Lady Rachel Ruto travelled to the United States (US) and delivered a keynote address in Dallas on Tuesday, May 23.

According to a press release seen by Viral Tea, the address highlighted Kenya's status, opportunities, and vision as a nation poised for economic growth and sustainable development.

The First Lady shared Kenya's progress and challenges in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and the worst drought in 40 years.

She also summarised President William Ruto-led government's Bottom Up, Economic Transformation Agenda 2022–2027, which aims to transform Kenya into a prosperous and productive country.

The First Lady also discussed the government's priority sectors for growth and development, such as agriculture, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), housing and settlements, manufacturing, the digital superhighway and creative economy, and environment and climate action.

"She invited investors to explore the opportunities in these sectors and take advantage of Kenya's young and vibrant population, improved infrastructure, and supportive investment climate.

"She also stressed the importance of environmental and climate action, particularly in the face of prolonged drought," the presser stated in part.

The government launched a campaign to plant 15 billion trees in ten years to increase national tree cover to 30 per cent by 2032.

In conclusion, Rachel Ruto reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to becoming a business-friendly destination and moving from "aid to trade", adding that Kenya is the gateway to the region, offering global transport and trade opportunities.

Rachel Ruto has been playing as much of an integral role in the Kenya Kwanza government as President Ruto in terms of enhancing service delivery during her husband's first term.

During the pair's trip to Israel, she revealed that she would help increase the popularity of cycling as an alternative means of transport to combat the adverse effects of climate change.

Speaking in Jerusalem, Israel on Wednesday, May 10, the First Lady revealed that this would be done through a programme under her foundation Mama Doing Good, dubbed MaMa Cycling.

The programme will explore the possibility of introducing similar programmes in Kenya to encourage more young people to take up cycling as a way of promoting a cleaner and healthier environment.

"MaMa CyCling, a programme of Mama Doing Good, is dedicated to promoting the uptake of cycling to advocate for climate action and just road systems in Kenya," she stated in part.

The First Lady visited the Ben Shemen Youth Movement Centre in Jerusalem. She drew inspiration from the fact that the centre provides cycling programmes to community centres and youth villages throughout Israel.

"These programmes are tailored to each organisation's educational or therapeutic mission, teaching cycling skills, building motivation and self-discipline, and fostering teamwork and social cohesion," she added.

Still, regarding climate change, Rachel Ruto expressed plans of creating a forest in Machakos. To ensure its success, she picked lessons from Jerusalem on seed development, preservation, tree nursery, and seedling nurturing.

The forest would be dubbed the 'Zion' forest and it would be part of efforts to restore Kenya's ecosystem and combat climate change.
