Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok told off Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi who made headlines following his remarks on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

On Sunday, Sudi told the DP that he (Sudi) was free to travel across the country even beyond his constituencies as long as he supported his party leader, President William Ruto.

“Everyone contributed to the Kenya Kwanza Government. Let's respect each other. We ask the President and his deputy to respect us. We can't allow them to come and harass small leaders,” Sudi said.

His response came as a result of Gachagua's comments on Saturday where he called out Ruto's allies, berating them for engaging in succession politics.

“There are politicians from Rift Valley who have partnered with others in the Mt Kenya region and have decided to plan 2027 politics now. Why do you want to succeed the president while he is still alive?” he posed.

Barchok, who addressed the media on Monday, May 27, stated that Gachagua stood with the people of the Rift Valley region, seemingly against the odds, and therefore should be given some respect.

He further asserted that if anybody had an issue with any remarks by the deputy president, there was a way of approaching the matter respectfully.

"We will not allow a few people to bring shame to our government. Those who will bring shame to our president and deputy president. I want to speak to the people of Rift Valley. Riggy G stood with us. We must give him respect," Barchok urged.

"Just yesterday or the day before, I saw someone arguing with Riggy G. He is our parent, so respect him. If there is something he has said, there is a respectable way to address it. But not by standing on the podium and arguing with him. We will not allow that."

Barchok's sentiments have continued to expose growing differences in President Ruto's party, with reports alleging that Gachagua and Ruto were not seeing each other politically.

However, Gachagua has kept on insisting that his relationship with Ruto is still intact.
