The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday, November 17 reminded Kenyans especially those going out to party at entertainment joints to be hawk-eyed amidst the rise of criminal activities in urban areas going into the festive period.

The investigative agency was specific in its warning; cases involving individuals, particularly female suspects who target revellers across various drinking joints and stupefying their drinks with the intention to rob them of their hard-earned money.

DCI's warning came as detectives flushed out a notorious suspect who conned a foreign national over Ksh500,000 after stupefying his drink. The suspect was discovered in a hideout in Kasarani, Nairobi.

"This case serves as a reminder to stay vigilant, particularly in social settings, as criminal activities continue to rise in urban areas as we approach the festive season," stated the DCI in part.

The case saw detectives based in Kilimani detain the suspect notorious for the drugging of revellers across various drinking joints in Nairobi.

Her arrest resulted from a report filed at Kilimani Police Station by a Chadian national, who informed detectives that a city damsel "had washed his wallets after a night of merrymaking at Gemini and Quivers clubs."

In his November 9 report, the victim alleged to have retreated to his residence located at Spring Gardens Apartments in the company of his catch having downed several shots of their choice drinks.

"The events that followed left behind a stupefied host, with the suspect stealing USD 4,000, Ksh10,000, a Samsung S20 and a Corn C105 phone before disappearing," stated the DCI in part.

"Conducting a forensic-led investigation, the detectives smoked Consolata out of her hideout at the Hunters area within Kasarani sub-county, wherein they recovered the stolen phones that were positively identified by the complainant."

During the raid, detectives discovered a newly purchased 75-inch TV worth Ksh107,000 as per the receipts, and a cooker worth Ksh55,000. The items, both of which were purchased after the incident, were believed to be proceeds of crime.

Further investigation uncovered two national identity cards, one Kenyan and one Ugandan, both bearing different names but the same photograph of the suspect which raised serious questions about her true identity which is still under investigation.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, November 18, 2024.
