Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lived up to his plan of tracking down Ivy Chelimo, a lifestyle influencer, content creator and law graduate who masterminded the viral 'Riggy G' nickname.

Speaking at the World Food Day at Rombo, Kajiado South Sub County on Monday, October 17, Gachagua met Chelimo and offered him a job at his Harambee House Annex office located in Nairobi.

Though he did not disclose the exact position she will be working at within the office, Gachagua praised the woman for her mastery of creativity as a testimony to the gifts the Kenyan youth have in the country.

"You heard others changing my name from Rigathi Gachagua to Riggy G. I have found the woman who came up with the nickname and I've come with her. I'll give her a job in my office," Gachagua said much to the delight of the crowd.

Gachagua explained how Chelimo came up with the name during the deputy presidential debate, taking note of how he dealt squarely with Martha Karua of the Azimio la Umoja coalition before she simplified his tongue-twisting name to one that went viral after his swearing-in on Tuesday, September 13.

"This young girl saw me at the debate. He noticed that I was doing well against Martha Karua. She saw that my name, Rigathi Gachagua, is difficult and asked her friends to look for a name that is friendly among the youth," he added.

On her part, Chelimo thanked the second-in-command, reiterating his passion towards giving the youth a chance in any position in the country, even in government.

"Thank you Deputy president, he offered me a job this morning and he's very passionate about the youths taking positions in this government. He made a statement this morning asking how long will we keep telling the youths that we are the leaders of tomorrow," she stated.

"I assure you that he has things in place to ensure the youth take up opportunities so don't sit and wait for opportunities to come but rather take them up by yourselves."

Speaking to Citizen TV's Waihiga Mwaura on the night of Sunday, October 2, Gachagua revealed that he sent his sons to look for Chelimo so that she could sit down with the family for dinner.

He also disclosed that he was planning to offload part of his Ksh1.22 million salary to boost her as she carries out her work.

He noted that by rewarding Chelimo, the young people of Kenya would be recognised for their talents and that the President William Ruto-led administration would support them so that they can use their talents to increase profits.

Chelimo's post on Twitter at that time read "Riggy G amekataa kutaja freedom (Riggy G has refused to mention Uhuru)" which was made to mean that Gachagua refused to mention Uhuru during the deputy presidential debate.

It began gaining traction as the days went by but became mainstream during Gachagua's hard-hitting inaugural speech at Uhuru's administration for leaving the economy dilapidated. Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) started using the 'Riggy G' nickname and the origin, being Chelimo, was identified, turning her into an online celebrity overnight.

Chelimo is an ardent follower of politics and regarding her political ambitions, she aspires to vie for either a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) or a Senator in the 2027 general elections.

Notably her family tree includes her elder cousin who happens to be Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) sports anchor, Caren Kibbett. The journalist recently bagged two awards at the Zikomo Africa Awards held in Zambia.
