A bus believed to be full of passengers, belonging to Guardian, has plunged into River Nyambera in Kisii County.

Ma3Route was the first to report the accident that occurred on Saturday, November 26.

The number of passengers that were injured or killed in the morning accident, was not yet determined by the time of publishing.

Several passengers sustained serious injuries during the accident, according to reports.

Reports indicate that at least four passengers - all males - are receiving emergency treatment at the Kisii County Referral Hospital after sustaining injuries, seven kilometres from the scene of the accident.

A crowd, according to photos seen by Viral Tea, was seen milling around the scene as service providers and residents moved to carry out emergency rescue operations.

The bus was heading to Kisii Town from Daraja Mbili when a canter that broke its brakes hit it from behind, plunging into the river. At the time of the accident, 21 passengers were on board the bus.

Kisii County Disaster management and the rescue teams managed to pull the bus out of the river hours after the accident occurred.

It comes hours after three people were killed after a 14-seater matatu collided with a high-speed trailer at Nakuru's Ngata Bridge.

Another accident that occurred at Kipkelion, Kericho County on Friday, November 25 involved a Toyota Noah vehicle which was ferrying students of St. Clare's Girls School Maragoli, Vihiga County after closing school for the December holidays.

A report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) explained why the weekends of Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the most dangerous days on Kenyan roads.

"Most fatal road traffic crashes occur from Friday to Sunday, between 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm. The peak being 8.00p.m," NTSA stated in part on Thursday, November 17.

The authority also revealed that the total number of victims of road accidents shot up from 16,642 in 2021 to 17,550 from January to October 30, 2022. 

Deaths also rose from 3,733 to 3,924 while cases of serious injuries went from 8,214 cases to 7,982.
