Swazi DJ Uncle Waffles, real name Lungelihle Zwane on Monday, December 2 slammed organisers of the "For the Love of Amapiano" event held in Kenya for how they handled the event.

The event took place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the ASK Dome along Ngong Road and was highly anticipated by fans. However, it quickly descended into turmoil due to poor event management, which led to overcrowding and delays, causing frustration among attendees.

Attendees were reportedly pushed around, mishandled, and treated without care by the event’s organisers and security personnel.

As tensions escalated, authorities intervened by using tear gas to disperse the agitated crowd, resulting in many concertgoers being forced out of the venue.

In a heartfelt statement addressed to her Kenyan fans, the star criticised the event organisers for a string of issues, from poor event management to mistreatment of her team and fans.

The DJ, originally from Eswatini, further noted that the poor sound was experienced even before her performance. She also berated the event organisers for the misconduct shown by not just her attendees but also her team.

“The safety and well-being of people who come out to support me and this genre is my top priority, and I could not play my set any longer while people were visibly uncomfortable and at risk of getting hurt.

"To the event organisers, you have not only disappointed me but you have also let down the 10,000+ people who came out in support of this event,” read Uncle Waffles’ statement.

She further challenged the organizers to step up, promising a bigger return to Kenya. “Kenya I hope to see you again soon with a much better outcome, I love you guys sm!” she continued.

This incident has sparked conversations online about event management and the responsibility of organisers to ensure the safety and satisfaction of both artists and attendees.

With December packed with a series of concerts featuring international acts, event organisers cannot afford to replicate the mistakes that were dominant in Uncle Waffles' event.

The country will play host to an impressive array of artists from across the globe, including renowned performers from Tanzania, Jamaica, and Nigeria. From Nairobi to Kisumu, these concerts promise unforgettable moments as international and regional stars grace the Kenyan stage.

Among the international acts set to perform this month include Etana, Sean Paul, Koffi Olomide, Diamond Platnumz, Shenseea, Alikiba and Marioo as well as Ya Levis.
