Amidst all the seriousness that came with President William Ruto's joint media interview on Wednesday, January 4, there was a light moment regarding his wedding ring when he married First Lady Rachel Ruto.

The interview held at State House saw his attention veered off to the ring after he was spotted in the first part of the highly anticipated interview without one.

He narrated that he purchased the ring from the famous Nagin Pattni outlet along River Road in Nairobi, known to many for among others cheap goods that are readily available compared to premium shops.

"Let me tell you the story of the ring. When Rachel and I got married, we went to that fellow called Nagin Pattni along River Road and bought rings there. It was then Ksh700.

"My ring got tired along the way and broke. Rachel took so long to get a replacement," explained the Head of State.

The question was first raised by Citizen TV news anchor and reporter Sam Gituku, after the absence of the ring in the first part of the interview raised questions online.

Ruto, while questioning how the serious discussion that was tailored to members of the public veered off to the light moment, defended himself by revealing that he was in a hurry to get dressed for the joint meeting with journalists and in the process, forgot his ring.

"In a hurry to come here, I was having some meetings in the office then they (handlers) told me to go dress up (for this interview).

"So, in the process of all that, I forgot my ring and it is very interesting that it became a subject of discussion. I thought we were having a very serious discussion," he stated.

On meeting his wife, his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua revealed during the 52nd graduation ceremony at the Kenyatta University (KU) in Nairobi where he was the chief guest, how President Ruto met Rachel at KU market where he was chilling, and how he executed a scheme that won over his wife.

"My boss William Ruto also hung around here and sorted himself, you guys do know that the president is a man full of schemes? He also found Rachel Ruto here at KU, our first lady of Kenya,” he addressed.

In a past interview, Ruto shared details of their humble beginnings and starting out in a Ksh1,750 house in Ngando, Dagoretti South, where he stated Nick Ruto was born.

The two got married in 1991 at the AIC church.
