New details emerged on Tuesday, January 9 regarding the link between an upcoming Kajiado politician and John Ong'oa Matara, who is currently the main suspect in the murder of 26-year-old Starlet Wahu Mwangi.

A report by NTV revealed that the politician was accused of luring women with the promise of paying them between Ksh15,000 and Ksh25,000 for a steamy night before robbing them of their electronics, money and sex.

Furthermore, it was revealed that once the man steals from his victims, he is picked by Matara who was working as a taxi driver.

Coincidentally, the incident took place at Papino apartments where Starlet was found murdered on Thursday, January 4.

Furthermore, it was revealed how Matara crafted a small team of men and women who terrorised men seeking sexual favours in suburbs such as Roysambu and beyond.

The only woman in the escort business who came out openly to agitate for speedy investigations into the murder of Wahu as well as other violent acts linked to Matara revealed how he posed as different, unsuspecting persons to trick even the most aware targets.

"It's funny that in one of the incidents you might think that John Matara was a husband pretending that he caught someone with his wife. In another incident, he was a getaway taxi driver," the woman narrated.

Matara was revealed not to have operated by himself, nor have any modus operandi, coming in many forms and with a professional team, including working with a woman who lures men through dating sites to meet her in rented houses for a night of business.

Immediately after the duo gets down to work, Matara and another man storm the house, accusing the clients, mostly foreigners, of having an affair with his wife, to which they are beaten and thereafter robbed.

"A Nigerian was done for bad things, there are women who are on Badoo who are pretending to be good people booking Airbnbs and telling them that it is their house. The Nigerian will go and visit knowing that it is the woman's house, and when he gets there, she calls a group of men to the Airbnb...this isn't her house.

"They arrive and attack him and while choking him, they demand his mobile money PIN and fearing for your life, you give it out. They take all your money and use it for themselves," an Airbnb operator narrated one of the chilling encounters.

Matara and the women thereafter locked up the Nigerian national after transferring Ksh29,000 from his phone to a number registered under another person, a tactic that many victims have recounted also witnessing in the wake of news reports of Wahu's murder.

The woman in the escort business accused police of plainly extorting money from Nigerian nationals instead of helping them in situations where it is needed, scenarios where their life could be at risk.

Furthermore, she, who is a salonist by day, revealed that she assumes her gender based on their next victim. Nonetheless, she advocated for the end of stigmatization

"Let us stop looking at the girls like bad people and shaming them because of who the clients are to these girls. They are serving so many men out there, there are married men, and yet society does not look at the married men who are the clients to these ladies with that same immorality angle that they do look at with the girls," she added.

In addition to Matara, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives arrested his 25-year-old friend, Anthony Nyongesa, who assisted Matara when he was undergoing treatment at Mbagathi Hospital for stab wounds.

To bring justice to the victim and potentially uncover a larger criminal network, the DCI appealed to past victims and survivors of the suspect's animosity to report their experiences formally by recording statements at the Regional Criminal Investigations Office in Nairobi or the nearest police station.

“The investigations currently point to a possible serial sexual offender who thrives on blackmail to his victims, and who may be part of a criminal ring that targets women on dating sites and other social media Apps,” the DCI's statement read in part.

Notably, Viral Tea reported that Matara was likely part of an 11-person gang relying on high-end vehicles to lure their targets and spend heavily on them before they meet them in person.
