Popular Congolese Lingala singer Mbilia Bel made a surprise appearance at Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition patrons, Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua's rally in Nyeri county on Tuesday, July 4.

The musician, known for hit songs such as Nakei Nairobi and Nadina, among others, was introduced to the crowd by Raila who revealed to his supporters that he had brought a guest artist to perform for them.

He added that the musician had been brought to the rally to help the Azimio coalition convince its supporters to vote for him en masse in the upcoming August 9 elections.

"I have with me a visitor, a woman, a musician who comes from Congo, Kinshasa and she is called Mbilia Bel," the former prime minister introduced the songstress before she took to the stage.

Bel performed the famous Nakei Nairobi song, but in an interesting fashion, she twisted it to make it look like the lyrics were endorsing the presidential bid for Raila, as well as Martha Karua for Deputy President.

"Tuende Nairobi, tumuimbie baba Raila, Tuende Nairobi, tumcheze baba Raila. Tuende Nairobi, tumuimbie mama Martha, Tuende Nairobi, tumcheze mama Martha," she sang.

The performance lasted for two minutes as Bel was joined by other Azimio politicians in serenading the crowd who had flocked to see the famous 'Baba na Martha' duo.

Bel is in Kenya for a concert courtesy of the Royal Media Services (RMS). Its owner, SK Macharia, is an ardent supporter of Raila Odinga.

Odinga led the Azimio campaigns in Nyeri on Tuesday where they made several stopovers in Chaka, Othaya, Mukurweini, and Nyeri town. They are expected to tour Kiambu County on Wednesday, July 6 (today).

Raila has been endorsed by various artists on the campaign trail, including famous Benga artist Emmanuel Musindi who altered his Lelo ni Lelo song to form part of the main Azimio tune for its campaigns.

Recently, Karua featured in a song alongside famous rap artists such as Fena Gitu as well as Sally Wisdom, Grace Mwai and Jecinta Omondi.
