Six parties that were part of the Kenya Kwanza administration on Tuesday, March 14 folded to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in obedience to UDA SG Cleophas Malala's call.

Malala confirmed in a statement that the six parties agreed to unite forces with UDA and support President William Ruto's agenda for one ruling party.

Some of the parties that have agreed to dissolve and join UDA include the Umoja na Maendeleo Party, led by Governor Martin Wambora, the Farmers Party of Kenya, led by Irungu Nyakera, the Economic Freedom Party, led by Hon. Isaac Hassan Abey, Chama cha Mashinani, led by Chairman Hon. Mohamed Gulei, the National Agenda Party, led by Hon. Alfayo Agufana, and the Secretary General of Chama cha Kazi Party, Hon. James Kimani.

Malala emphasized that the parties had pledged their unconditional support to the Kenya Kwanza Administration's efforts to unite all Kenyans and ensure political stability in the country.

The last election was meant to decide whether Kenya is to go forward or to make a U-turn. Kenyans chose to make a U-turn, to go back to early 2000 when Kenya's struggle for a better economy, jobs for the youth, health for all and national unity were in their hearts and mind.

"Here we are. With the tools of power in the right hands, we cannot afford to fail but make our future generations proud of this history," said Malala in a statement.

He further expressed that the partnership with the like-minded parties involved was a clear indication that the UDA party's dream stretched beyond personalities.

"Our vision is to live and outlive the ambitions of our founders. This is the option our partners had and chose a strong, stable, national, majority. Conservative party that is focused on building the nation and generations to come than just winning an election," he added.

The move is expected to give UDA a huge boost ahead of the next general elections, with the party now able to rely on six of the newcomer parties for support in their bid to retain power for the next five years.

However, some parties within the Kenya Kwanza coalition such as ANC and Ford Kenya are against the move to collapse member parties into one super political outfit.

“We are not going to fold our party. If anything, we are planning to rejuvenate and strengthen our party from the grassroots level. ANC will remain vibrant,” ANC party leader Issa Timamy pointed out during a press briefing in Vihiga on March 12, 2023.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on his part assured Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties that they would not be coerced to fold and join UDA and that they will only join voluntarily.

Shortly after the General Election, Moses Kuria announced the dissolving of his CCK party in October 2022, noting that he had already notified the Office of Registrar of political parties (ORRP) of his move.
