President Uhuru Kenyatta responded to Deputy President William Ruto's wild claims that the Head of State was planning to assassinate his political rivals ahead of the August 9 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday, July 31 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) terminus, Uhuru stated that he was not planning to engage in any feuds during his final days as President.

Uhuru was also responding to Ruto's associates claiming that their lives were in danger over political differences ahead of the elections.

He added that he has endured insults for nearly three years and had no time to respond to them while nearing his exit from office.

"You have insulted me for close three years, has anyone touched you? I was in office for those three years and did I not have the capability? Now that I want to hand over the government and I have limited powers, do you think I have time to look for you?

"Everyone, including myself, has the right to campaign for whoever they want. There is no reason for insults and If I answer you because you have lied. There is no reason to tell people I want to kill you," he noted.

Uhuru further urged Kenyans to remain peaceful during the ongoing campaign period leading to the elections to ensure that they live in unity past the polls.

"I am doing my work and you should go and campaign on your own. If Kenyans want you in office they will vote for you, if they don't then we will go home together," he added.

Kiambu gubernatorial candidate, Moses Kuria, had revealed to Inspector General of Police (IG) Hillary Mutyambai that he had received threats from the President, noting that he was being used by the Head of State to protect his opponents in the Kiambu gubernatorial race.

Deputy President William Ruto had made similar allegations at a campaign rally in Nandi, on Friday, July 29 where he claimed that the President was not just targeting him but his children as their row took a turn for the worse.

"If you do not want to support me, leave me alone. With a lot of respect, Mr President, be a decent human being, Be a gentleman, be grateful, we supported you...stop pretending.

"Do not harm my children. Now you have started threatening me with 'I don't know what you will do'. You and I should respect each other," he urged.

A day later, DP Ruto's running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, claimed that state officials were targeting the second-in-command as the campaign period enters the final week.
